Development of battery systems

Integration of different layers: physically, energetically and in control systems

When developing efficient and competitive traction batteries, a general understanding of the entire vehicle and its possible operating strategies is essential. Therefore, we closely collaborate with our body, electrics / electronics, and thermal management colleagues to ensure battery modules to be efficient and safe universal components in a wide variety of systems and vehicle applications.

Starting from defined package and performance requirements in the vehicle’s specification we design size and type of the module, and analyze the different options for the cellular connection.

Our concept includes the specific requirements towards the battery cells concerning their behavior in a vehicle crash, in thermal and electrical borderline situations as well as the operational strategy in varying driving states.

The thermal connection of the modules to appropriate conditioning systems, the electric connection of the modules, and their supervision, plus their mechanical connection to the vehicle’s carrying structure are part of our development process for both the battery module and the overall system.
