Cooling concepts

Cooling concepts for batteries, power electronics and ECUs

An increasing electrification leads to a growing number of temperature sensitive components in vehicles.

Their durability often depends strongly on specific temperatures. Plus, the ideal temperature levels of different components can vary widely.

Battery cooling concepts with integrated heat accumulators with so-called phase change materials (PCM), as we developed in the project “qOpt”, make the difference.

They buffer performance peaks in the PCM, whereas the design of the cooling system is based on the average performance of the components.

Further, the growing capacity of configurable components like control units for automated driving functions, leads to additional requirements for cooling systems. An early adjustment of board layout and cooling in the development phase can help reduce installation space, weight and costs in order to increase durability and performance.

Thanks to our wide range of expertise and our close cooperation with our colleagues, we also design cooling concepts for crash-deformable batteries.
