Automobiles arouse emotions. Moving a vehicle and experiencing its dynamics and the associated joy of driving - or "driving pleasure" - is, notwithstanding all rational properties such as safety and energy efficiency, the decisive characteristic when it comes to awakening enthusiasm for the automobile. The subject of driving pleasure therefore develops ideas for individual mobility, the fun of driving, and comfort. Classical aspects such as vehicle dynamics (the characteristics of the chassis, suspension system and tyres) and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) are the main focus. The interaction between the driver and the vehicle is particularly decisive in determining driving pleasure. It is necessary to understand the driver better in order to optimise the functional, architectural and energy-related aspects of the systems such that driving pleasure continues to inspire people in the future too - the fascination of the automobile.
